Synthetic Morphogenetics and Tissue Ecology Lab
Impact & Ethics
Impact
The products of our efforts consist of designer organoids, novel tissues, and synthetic niches.
• We learn design principles that control our tissue development and regeneration. But also these rules are applicable to several other complex systems that exist around us in nature!
• We produce and test cells and tissues for regenerative medicine applications (e.g., Liver tissue for future transplantations, Stem cells for curing blood disease).
• We provide human-based tissue platforms to model human disease and for discovery of new drugs.
Ethics
Our research studies are approved and performed under the oversight of the University of Pittsburgh Human Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee (SCRO) and follows the ISSCR Guidelines on Ethical Standards for Stem Cell Models. Our animal studies are reviewed and approved by University of Pittsburgh Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
